Yes, this is a paper-thin rug, but in some sense you get what you pay for. At under $100, this is a great find. Unlike other rugs I've purchased, the bottom of this is a bit tacky (literally, a bit sticky) so it stays in place, the fringe actually stuck to it and I had to pick it back to the front when I was laying it. I was surprised at how soft the fibers felt, like silk. Beware depending on the lighting and angle of viewing, this rug can look super shiny--which I like. I bought the brown-taupe version and from a certain standing point, it looks almost silver, but when sitting down you can see the brown, taupe colors through, and it looks more like the photo.
If you want to make it look more expensive, I would recommend a good rug mat to add some volume, but it's really not necessary. As you can see in the uploaded photos from other buyers, it's beautiful without. Mine sits under a coffee table in the living room and I didn't feel it was necessary. It still adds class and sophisticated style for a great price. It was really the finishing touch I needed. Very happy.
